What is the WCRP?The World Climate Research Program is the international forum for thousands of climate scientists worldwide to determine and improve our ability to predict climate and to discern human impacts on climate. Over the past 30 years the WCRP has greatly increased our scientific understanding of Earth’s climate. It has helped develop state of the art climate observing networks, models and data analyses that are being used around the world for practical applications, especially at the regional scale for vulnerability, impact and adaptation to ensure informed decision-making and sound climate policy advice. Why should you support the conference?By sponsoring conference events and costs, you will acknowledge the vital nature of regional climate research and show your support for continued engagement to sustain its development for societal benefits. In return, you will gain visibility amongst a diverse set of stakeholders involved in regional climate science, services and decision-making. Who will be attending and why are they relevant?International science leaders, policy makers and stakeholders from Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas, will be featured. A broad segment of the international regional climate science community will be presenting posters and oral talks and will expose their latest findings in regional climate science and applications. What is the local Brussels tie in?The European Commission located in Brussels is the local host for the conference and is strongly involved in regional climate science through e.g. its current 7th Framework Program to be followed soon by the Horizon 2020 initiative. This is an opportunity for local as well as international partnership. Will this be a “green” event? The WCRP is committed to reducing the environmental impacts of such a large international event. Sponsors, attendees and contributors are being asked to follow best practices in order to conserve natural resources as well as promote environmental sustainability. |
