Bordeaux's Merignac Airport is the closest airport to reach Arcachon. It is located west of the Bordeaux city. It's a regional airport which serves mostly domestic flights, although there are international flights to Bordeaux too.

From the airport to Bordeaux City Center

  • Express Bus (Jet' Bus)
    An express bus runs every 45 minutes to Bordeaux city center, and makes several stops in the city. It takes about 1 hour to go from the airport to the city.
    A one-way ticket costs around 7 EUR.

By train

The main train station (Gare Saint Jean) is located about 4km from the center of Bordeaux.

There is a direct TGV (fast train) connection from Paris Gare Montparnasse to Bordeaux St Jean (it's a 3h ride), but also from Aeroport CDG2 TGV. (it's a 4h.15mn ride).

To get on the TGV you need to book a ticket. You can either book on line with SNCF (French Railways - website in French) or with Rail Europe, or contact your travel agency.

From Bordeaux St Jean Station to Bordeaux City Center

A ride to the city center takes about 15 minutes and will cost you around 10 EUR.

Buses and tramways are a cheaper option: around 1.30 EUR per journey.

By car

You can reach Bordeaux by car from north (taking the A10 highway or N10), south (taking the A63 highway), and east. A beltway goes around the city.
If possible, avoid driving between 8-10 AM and 4-7 PM, as the beltway is usually overcrowded.
